String Studio VS-3: String-Oscillator Synthesizer by Applied Acoustics Systems Free Download

The core of String Studio VS-3 is its set of string oscillators. The developer lists picks, bows, hammers, fingers, frets and dampers as the excitation and damping types that shape each sound, giving a different starting character from conventional subtractive synthesis.

The sound engine is paired with a soundboard and classic filter, envelope and LFO stages. Applied Acoustics Systems says the filters stay musical under heavy modulation, which matters when you push a patch into extreme territory.

Two-voice multitimbral operation lets you stack or split two timbres within one instrument. Each layer includes two performance modulators that respond to user-defined MIDI controls, so effect and morphing assignments can be changed in real time.

The multi-effects section holds reverb, delay, distortion, phaser, chorus, flanger, filters, equalizer, compressor, guitar amplifier and tremolo across three independent racks. Microtonal work is supported through Scala scale files and reference note frequency tuning.

The factory library includes more than 800 presets covering 22 sound categories, including basses, pads, leads, keys, plucks, strings, sequences and textures. Four signature sound packs from Richard Devine, Christian Laffitte, Thiago Pinheiro and Daniel Stawczyk add 227 sounds.

The browser sorts sounds by category and offers shortcuts to categories and tone qualities. Existing String Studio VS-2 banks can be copied into the packs folder to work in VS-3.
