01Overview

Monopolyphonix is a sample-based library that captures the character of the Farfisa Syntorchestra, a 1974 portable synth. The Syntorchestra pairs a polyphonic divide-down section with a monophonic synth, and the two sections can interact in unusual ways. Loot Audio uses this source material as a starting point for new sounds rather than a straight replica of the original instrument. The instrument runs inside Kontakt and includes 34 editable patches and 12 layered multi patches.

Sound Character and the Syntorchestra Source

The instrument is built from 165 multi-sampled 24-bit recordings of a recently restored Farfisa Syntorchestra. The original combines a polyphonic divide-down section and a basic monosynth running in parallel. Because the two sections have different pitch behavior, they can beat and phase against each other.

According to the developer, the polyphonic section gives stable pitch while the monophonic section adds drift and imperfection. With careful tuning of the front panel, the two can be combined into a large sound. The monophonic section can also produce chime, twang and theremin-like timbres.

Layering Engine and Patch Structure

Monopolyphonix includes a 4-voice layering engine that lets you combine sounds and save the result. The library provides 16 multi-sampled voices and partials, so you can shape each layer within the instrument.

The 34 example instrument patches are editable, which makes them a practical starting point for building your own sounds. The 12 layered multi patches show how the layering engine can be used across several voices.
