01Overview

Vermona Random Rhythm is an expansion for Softube Modular, created in collaboration with and authorized by German manufacturer Vermona. Softube describes it as an exact model of the original random-based, dual-channel trigger sequencer hardware. Each of its two rhythm sections has four sliders for quarter, eighth, sixteenth and triplet notes, which set how likely each note value is to appear at each step. It can be used as the sole rhythm source or alongside other sequencers.

Probability Controls and Rhythm Sections

The module has two rhythm sections, each with four sliders that correspond to quarter, eighth, sixteenth and triplet notes. The sliders influence the probability that each note value appears at each step of the generated pattern.

Rather than programming patterns note by note, you shape the odds with the sliders and let the sequence emerge. Separate outputs for each note value can be used on their own, or combined for more complex rhythms.

The module can also generate or multiply clocks, and a Reset input lets you mute the outputs or restart a diced bar.

Realtime and Dice Modes for Drums and Melodies

Each rhythm section can run in realtime mode, where values are generated continuously for each note value, or in dice mode, where a complete 3/4 or 4/4 bar is generated at once. The sliders keep control over the resulting sequence in both modes.

Softube says the module suits drum modules, arpeggio sequencing, and rhythmic textures for drums or melodies. A Swing control is included for adding groove to the output.

05FAQ

Questions, answered

What do I need to run Vermona Random Rhythm?

It requires Softube Modular, since it is an expansion for that platform. It also needs a Softube account and an iLok account, and an AU, VST, VST3 or AAX compatible DAW.

Which plugin formats and operating systems are supported?

It is available in VST3, VST2, AU, AAX and RTAS formats, for Windows and macOS. Softube recommends VST3 because some of its plugins have features not present in the older VST format.

Do I need to know music theory or probability to use it?

No. Softube says the four sliders per rhythm section shape the odds directly, so you can generate patterns without programming them note by note.
