01Overview

Meloreed is a melodica instrument for Kontakt, developed by Loot Audio and created by film composer and producer Guillermo Guareschi. The instrument is played and recorded with special techniques to capture a sound the developer describes as nearly indistinguishable from the acoustic melodica. Mixing vintage tube and solid-state preamplifiers with low self-noise microphones gives the tone its complexity. Meloreed targets composers working across genres who want an expressive melodic voice in their productions.

Sound and Expressive Control

Meloreed is recorded in high resolution with Krystalos Audio Technology and a minimal signal path. Loot Audio says no EQ cut or other destructive processing was applied to the chain, so the harmonics stay intact.

The mod wheel adds a natural crescendo, and you can shape the attack of each note. The developer notes that the normal setting includes the breath and air that move the reeds before the note gains volume, which helps with slow, emotional lines. Adjusting the offset lets you move from slow lyrical phrases to fast quasi-staccato arpeggios.

Mic Blend, Noise and Reverb Controls

Close and ambient microphones can be controlled individually, so you can balance direct articulation against room character. Separate volume controls for key noises and for breath and air let you decide how much of the mechanical detail stays in the mix.

Round robins and dynamic layers add variation across repeated notes, and an impulse response reverb is included for placing the instrument in a space without a separate reverb plugin.
