Drive, Gain Staging and Sound Character
The Drive control is the centerpiece of the plugin. Below roughly 72%, the saturation deepens progressively. Above that point, foldback components are introduced, which gives the sound a more aggressive, distorted character.
Input sets the level entering the saturation stage, and Output sets the level of the processed signal. Because both offer ±24 dB of range, you can drive the stage harder or softer without changing the overall loudness of the track.
To judge what the processing is doing to the texture, match the output level to the bypassed signal. This keeps volume differences from influencing your decision.
