01Overview

Lux Violin is a Kontakt instrument built around a violin sound, with a set of articulations that covers long legato lines, short bowed notes and plucked passages. It is presented as a follow-up to the Barbarian Cello library from the same developer, and it works across a wide range of styles, from cinematic scoring to contemporary productions. The instrument is designed to run inside Kontakt and gives you controls for dynamics, vibrato and articulation switching so you can shape the performance without leaving your session.

03In depth

Articulations and the Legato Engine

Lux Violin includes a broad articulation set, from lyric, medium and soft legato to sustains, flautando, sul tasto, harmonics, tremolo, marcato, swells, spiccato, staccato and pizzicato.

The legato system uses two types of transitions that are chosen based on how you play. Regular transitions cover an octave up and down, and fast transitions cover a perfect fourth, which the developer positions for quick ornaments and runs.

Long articulations include soft and hard attacks, and the short articulations are built from extracted phrases for smoother connections between notes.

Interface, Keyswitches and Rebowing

The interface offers three modes. Keyswitch mode changes articulations using the red keys in the top register. Split mode divides the keyboard so you can, for example, play legato on the right and sustains on the left. Morph mode transforms one articulation into another, such as moving from flautando toward harmonics.

Lux Violin uses a rebowing engine that lets you repeat notes on long articulations, with up to five variations per note. The developer states this is meant to avoid the machine gun effect in repeated notes.

Individual patches are also available for users who prefer to build their own setups or want to reduce resource use.
