01Overview

KAITO V3 focuses on vocal production rather than sound design. Its voice is built from recordings of a human singer, edited for the VOCALOID engine, and it comes with one full English voice bank and three Japanese banks. Gender factor and brightness parameters let you shape the voice to fit a track. The package also includes Piapro Studio, a vocal editor, and Cubase LE, so you can start producing vocal and instrumental tracks from one install.

Voice banks and suggested styles

The four voice banks each have a distinct character. DB1 STRAIGHT is described as a clear, natural voice suited to folklore, pop and rock, at 90 to 200 BPM. DB2 SOFT is a softer voice for soft rock, folk and ambient material, at 80 to 180 BPM. DB3 WHISPER is a sweet, whispery voice for ballads, jazz and soul, at 65 to 150 BPM. DB4 ENGLISH is a calm, natural voice aimed at cross-over, dance and electronica, at 70 to 190 BPM.

Each bank lists a recommended vocal range, from B1 to C3 for DB1, D2 to B2 for DB2, F2 to D3 for DB3, and B1 to B2 for DB4. Check a melody against these ranges before you commit to a bank.

DB1, DB2 and DB3 are Japanese banks, while DB4 is the English bank. Crypton Future Media describes the voice as skillful and expressive.

Piapro Studio and workflow in your DAW

Piapro Studio is the vocal editor that works with KAITO V3. It runs as a VSTi plugin, so it loads inside common hosts. Crypton Future Media names PreSonus Studio One, Ableton Live and Steinberg Cubase among them. Since version 1.1, Piapro Studio also supports an AU plugin format for Apple Logic and GarageBand.

The package includes Cubase LE, which provides sequencing and editing for rhythms and melodies, along with HALion Sonic and Groove Agent SE instruments and plug-in effects. VOCALOID6 Editor Lite is also included as a standalone editor, limited to one VOCALOID track and one audio track, for two tracks in total. A license must be obtained from Sonicwire after purchase.
