German Log Drum is a Kontakt instrument from Loot Audio built from an 8-note pentatonic log drum. Each note is sampled at six velocity levels with articulations for felt, soft and hand strikes.
German Log Drum is a 356MB virtual instrument that turns a pentatonic log drum into a playable chromatic Kontakt instrument. The source instrument is an 8-note oak log drum tuned to B-flat major pentatonic. Loot Audio recorded it with center, stereo and room microphones, giving producers several positions to blend from a single instrument. It requires the full version of Kontakt and does not run in the free Kontakt Player.
Each note of the log drum was sampled at six velocity levels, then mapped across the keyboard. The instrument includes articulations played with timpani felt beaters, both soft and hard, as well as with the hand.
The full instrument, GLD Full.nki, loads all articulations and supports dynamic keyswitching. Quick switch articulations let you change strike type without leaving the instrument.
Buzz rolls sit two octaves above the clean hit. In these, the beater is allowed to come to rest naturally on the note, which suits round robin patterns and rolling textures.
Various percussive hits are placed an octave below the clean hit. The library also includes an interface and custom scripting engine, and velocity response has been improved at lower levels for a more solid dynamic response.
The full NKI covers every articulation. If you need less memory or only one strike type, the lighter files load just one articulation each: GLD Felt.nki, GLD Soft.nki or GLD Hand.nki.
All versions run inside Kontakt 4.2.3 or later, and the library requires 356MB of disk space.
