Sound and character of the felt piano
Loot Audio describes Felt 54 as a piano with character rather than a conventional upright. The source instrument is a Yamaha U3 that was modified to make the tone more focused while keeping its harmonic richness. Three microphones capture the piano in stereo, which gives the sound a close, intimate perspective.
The instrument spans G1 to G6 across 143 stereo samples at 44.1 kHz and 24-bit. Each root note has five velocity layers, and pedal up and down samples are included, so sustain changes can be heard as you play. Key release noise uses infinite round robins to avoid obvious repetition.
