01Overview

Esper Synth is a sound library built around the synth textures of Vangelis' Blade Runner score. Its patches cover brassy leads, pads, bell instruments and a percussion section drawn from the film's main title cue. The developer says the sounds were sampled from patches recreated on a CS-80 synth, the instrument Vangelis used for much of that score. The library suits sci-fi scoring as well as fans of the film's sound.

Brass Leads and Pads Recorded from a CS-80

The core of Esper Synth is its brass leads. The library includes five versions of the lead sound, which Loot Audio says were sampled from patches recreated on an actual CS-80 synth rather than taken from the soundtrack or modeled in software.

The four pads and two bell instruments add further options for atmospheric and melodic writing. The developer notes that the leads are playable out of the box, without adjusting controls or searching for a reverb setting.

The library contains 12 patches in total.

Controls, Modwheel and Monophonic Mode

Most patches map their volume to the modwheel, so dynamic control depends on that wheel. Loot Audio advises checking the modwheel first if a patch sounds silent.

The interface uses a sci-fi styled layout with LOW, MID and HI EQ controls, attack and release sliders, and a reverb and space knob. A button switches each patch between polyphonic and monophonic playback for a more authentic lead response.

05FAQ

Questions, answered

What do I need to use Esper Synth?

Esper Synth requires the full version of Kontakt 5.5.1 or later. It will not work with the free Kontakt Player.

What formats does Esper Synth come in?

Esper Synth is distributed as a Kontakt instrument.

Do the patches need heavy editing before use?

The developer says the brass leads are playable out of the box. Most patches respond to the modwheel, so check that control if you hear no sound.
