01Overview

Edda focuses on the tagelharpa, a Nordic bowed string instrument, and on shamanic percussion drawn from Nordic musical traditions. The developer describes the library as suited to cinematic folk and viking-style pagan music, while noting that it can also add natural imperfection and raw emotion to other genres. The main instruments are fully playable, so melodies and harmonies are performed rather than triggered from pre-recorded phrases.

Playable Tagelharpa Sound and Legato

The main instruments in Edda are sampled so that every note and a wide range of transitions can be played, including dissonant note combinations. Wavelet Audio built the library with performance sampling and rebow and attack morphing to achieve smooth legato transitions.

Edda offers four legato types: Rebow Legato, Portamento, Fast, and Trill. Instant Legato triggers legato immediately on note changes instead of waiting for the next rhythmic step, while Restart Seq resets the sequence on a note change and starts it from the beginning.

The Big Tagelharpa has two microphones with separate controls for the melodic and burdon strings. The burdon strings can be pitched down for sound design, and doubletrack can be applied to the microphones or the strings.

Sequencer, Phrases and Mic Settings

Edda includes an advanced rhythm sequencer with five patterns and MIDI drag-and-drop to your DAW. You can load and edit the preset sequences or build your own and save them.

The library includes many ready-to-use WAV phrases, sorted by tagelharpa type and BPM. Factory and user presets are available in the preset window.

Flexible microphone settings include several presets and individual controls for the volume, panorama and stereo image of each microphone, so the sound can be balanced within a mix.
