DS-2500 is built around the sound of the Seiko DS-250, a rare 1980s additive synthesizer. Loot Audio's instrument keeps the original hardware sounds and factory presets, then adds features the hardware never had. These include a velocity-sensitive playing response, resonant filters with multiple filter types, controllable amp and filter envelopes, high-pass filtering, and MIDI-syncable LFOs. The result is an instrument for producers who want the grainy, organic character of the original sounds with more room to shape them.

Sound Character and Filtering

The developer describes the DS-250 sound as earthy, organic and grainy, with the tonal imperfections that give additive sounds their character. DS-2500 keeps that base and adds 41 filters with LFO control, so you can shape those tones well beyond the hardware.

Velocity modulation can control filter cutoff and resonance, letting you change tone with how hard you play. Controllable ADSR envelopes for amp and filter, plus high-pass filtering, give you more options for shaping each sound.

Layers, Randomisation and Effects

DS-2500 offers two layers with 16 voices each, so you can stack two presets. Each layer has its own random patch generator. Press randomise to create unexpected starting points, then keep the results you like.

The effects section includes seven global effects, with chorus, phaser, flanger, tape saturation, reverbs, MIDI-syncable delays and an arpeggiator. The instrument also includes convolution reverbs.
