01Overview

Drivedown is designed to add color and edge to a wide range of sources, including vocals, drums, electric guitars, bass, strings and synths. Its core is an arctangent waveshaper that saturates gradually rather than clipping hard. The developer says no filtering stage tames the output, so the full harmonic content remains exposed. Drivedown ships as a 64-bit plugin in VST3, AU and AAX formats.

Sound Character and Drive Modes

Drivedown uses three modes to set the overall character of the distortion. Warmth provides gentle analog-style coloration. Raw adds grittier presence, and Insane delivers dense, aggressive saturation.

The Gain control pushes the signal harder into the arctan curve on top of the selected mode. Raise it to increase harmonic density at any mode setting, from subtle coloration to extreme saturation.

Epica Audio says the processing keeps the low end solid and the high end open as drive increases, which helps the sound stay clear under heavy saturation.

Depth, Mix and Output Controls

Depth is a built-in filter that shapes the low and high end around the distortion. It is enabled by default when you insert the plugin, which helps keep lows tight and highs clear.

The Mix control blends the distorted signal with the dry input. Lower settings suit parallel distortion, while 100% gives fully committed saturation. Output trim handles gain staging, and true bypass supports fair A/B comparisons.
