How the DAT Chain Shapes Sound
The plugin processes audio in the order a DAT deck did. Noise is added first, with an envelope that falls away after loud material, something the hardware did not offer. The input stage then squashes the programme and its hiss as one waveform, so loud passages flatten the noise rather than sitting on top of it.
Next comes the converter, which reduces sample rate and bit depth and applies dither. Emphasis is set to Off, a softer voicing, or the real 50/15 microsecond curve, which determines how hard high frequencies hit the converter and then undoes itself on output.
Gain drives the preamp, and the Drive control adds analogue-style saturation with oversampling up to 4x.
