01Overview

dime[ms] works on any audio track. It splits the signal into mid (center) and side (stereo edges), then lets you place effect chains on each. You can widen or narrow the mix, process low end in the center, and send spatial effects only to the sides. A stereo visualization shows the mid/side balance in real time, and the plugin is available in VST3, AU and AAX formats for Windows and macOS.

Mid/side processing for stereo control

dime[ms] lets you route the mid and side channels into their own FX chains. You can apply EQ, compression or limiting to the center and to the sides independently, so a single plugin can handle work that would otherwise require duplicated tracks.

A balance slider widens or narrows the mix, and a real-time visualization shows how the mid/side balance moves as you adjust it. Parameter mapping lets you control plugins placed in the chains from the dime[ms] interface, and per-plugin bypass and dry/wet sliders help you compare processed and unprocessed signal.

Low-end and creative routing

Time off audio describes a use for bass: bias the low end toward the mid channel to reduce phase issues, while keeping the side information available for creative effects. Mid-side routing can also keep the body of a synth focused in the center while adding saturation or high-frequency presence to the sides.

For transitions and sound design, dime[ms] can route delays, reverbs or modulation to the sides only, and automation of the mid/side balance can be used on risers. The plugin is listed as zero latency and recombines the two channels without phase artifacts, according to the developer.
