01Overview

Crumar Roady is a sample-based instrument for Native Instruments Kontakt that recreates the sounds of the Crumar Roady, an analogue keyboard with electric piano, bass and vibraphone voices. The instrument is split into three separate sections, Bass, Vibes and Piano, so producers can work with each voice on its own. It ships in two versions: a clean, unprocessed set and a set recorded through a vintage tape machine with added effects. An effects section is included for shaping the sound without leaving the instrument.

Clean and Tape-Processed Sound Sets

Crumar Roady includes two main sample sets. The first is a clean set of the Roady recorded without processing, which suits producers who want the raw character of the original keyboard and plan to shape the tone in their own mix chain.

The second set, called Wonky Tape, was recorded through a vintage tape machine with various effects applied. The developer presents it as a way to reach a wider range of tones than the clean samples alone. Both versions cover the same three instrument sections, so you can switch between a straight and a processed character within one project.

An easy-to-use effects section sits alongside the samples for quick adjustments.

Piano Key Range and Button Combinations

The piano section is controlled by two range buttons, L and R. With L active, the lower half of the keyboard, F0 to E2, plays. With R active, the upper half, F2 to F5, plays. Both can be engaged to work across the full range.

Three buttons, labeled 1, 2 and 3, select the piano sounds. Any combination of these three can be active at once. Loot Audio notes that every possible button combination has been sampled, so the layered results are captured rather than synthesized from a single sample.

Understanding these switches makes it easier to build layered piano parts that stay within the intended register.
