Creative Junk is a percussion collection for Kontakt by Loot Audio, built from recordings of everyday objects such as industrial heaters, bouncing balls, bottles, jugs and filing cabinets. The developer chose each object for its tone and character, and for how the objects sound when played together as a set. The result is a library aimed at producers who want unusual transients and textures rather than conventional drum kits.

Sound Character and Recording Approach

Loot Audio says the library covers a wide tonal range, from drum sounds with a gritty, Tom Waits-style character to melodic, tuned percussion reminiscent of Solaris-style textures.

Each object was recorded from three microphone positions. The ambient stereo pair captures the acoustics of the developer's live room, which suits big, spacious hits. The close mic setting gives a tighter, more focused sound for use in dense mixes.

Library Contents and Kontakt Setup

Creative Junk is a 1.03 GB collection of 2050 samples, organized into 20 NKI instruments. It includes 100 multi-sampled objects, and each object has up to seven velocity layers.

The library requires the full version of Kontakt 5.3.1 or later. It will not run in the free Kontakt Player. The developer also reports improved velocity sensitivity at lower velocity levels, which gives a more solid dynamic response when playing softer notes.
