01Overview

Combustor combines a conventional compressor with built-in adaptive saturation, so compression and coloration happen in one plugin. The developer describes it as a way to build a personal compressor tone. Standard controls such as threshold, attack, release, ratio and knee are present, along with a sidechain mode for external triggering. Its saturation behavior depends on the incoming signal and the compressor settings.

Adaptive Saturation and Compressor Character

Combustor adds saturation that responds to the incoming signal and the compressor settings. Five saturation types are available, ranging from a subtle tube-style effect to a much more aggressive, overdriven sound. A saturation mix control lets you blend the effect to taste.

The plugin is aimed at harmonic enhancement on bass lines, snap on percussion and added presence on vocals. Cycling through the saturation types is the quickest way to hear how each one changes the sound.

Controls, Gain Staging and Visual Feedback

The control layout follows a familiar compressor design, so existing compression techniques carry over. Input and Output sliders offer up to plus or minus 24 dB of gain adjustment to offset level changes caused by compression, which helps with accurate A/B comparisons. The Mix control blends the processed and unprocessed signal.

Central stereo meters show gain reduction in real time as the threshold changes, and peak indicators light up when the signal runs hot.
