Drum Sound and Microphone Character
BRUTE was recorded with three microphone sets, each with a specific job. A vintage Sennheiser MD21 emphasizes attack transients, processed through a Manley Voxbox. Vintage tube and ribbon overheads capture the warm, coarse, organic character of the kit. Modern Schoeps microphones provide a cleaner, more detailed signal.
The Smack control raises the clicky microphone to help drums cut through dense guitar layers. The Grit control crossfades between the clean and dirty mic sets, letting you move from a polished sound to a rougher one.
