01Overview

Bass Machine pairs two sample sets in one instrument. Loot Audio captured eight Model D multi-oscillator waves and eight 4-OP FM waves, then built a dual-channel engine that lets each source run with its own filter, envelope and LFO. The instrument includes 52 editable and savable example patches, and it requires the full version of Kontakt to run.

Dual-Channel Bass Sound Design

The core of Bass Machine is its dual-channel synth engine. Each channel can load a different sample set, and the two are layered with independent filters, envelopes and LFOs. This makes it possible to combine the warm, rounded character of the Minimoog-style waves with the sharper, more precise attack of the FM waves.

The Model D waves were sampled on every white key with four round robins per key, which adds slight variation when notes repeat. The FM waves were sampled on every white key as well.

Performance and Velocity Controls

The Performance/FX page includes saturation, unison with variable detune and spread, and glide with legato and retrigger switches. Unison stacks several voices for a thicker result, while glide options cover different playing styles.

A velocity mapping section lets you shape response using exponential, linear, logarithmic or S-curve laws. The remapped output can be routed to overall volume, filter amount, filter attack phase and VCA attack phase. Several demo patches use the mod wheel through LFO mapping to add vibrato and filter movement.
