01Overview

AVANT Modern Keys starts from a classic electric piano and expands it into a wide palette of ornate, unusual tones. Heavyocity built the library from prepared performances captured with hammers, e-bows, twine and picks. The result is a set of sources that go well beyond a standard electric piano sound. Within the instrument, you can blend up to three sources at once on a Three Point Mixer, and the Echoes feature adds controlled randomness to a performance. The library runs in Kontakt and is also available as a stand-alone application and as VST, AU and AAX plugins.

03In depth

Sound Sources and Character

AVANT Modern Keys includes 16 sound sources grouped into four families. Core Electric Piano covers Pure, ppp Pure, Tines and Tone Bars. Extended Techniques includes Pick Plucked, Tape Plucked, Rattle Screws and Damped. Sustained Techniques offers Bowed, Twine, Drilled and EBow. Processed sources include Dusty Tape, Rusty Tubes, Breathing Ambient Keys and Grain Decay.

The library ships with 4,026 samples, so each source has enough detail to be played across the keyboard. Pedal, key and mechanical noise can be controlled separately to add or reduce realism.

Workflow: Mixer, ARP and Browser

The Three Point Mixer is the main control surface. It lets you blend three sources in real time and adjust how they sit against each other. A convolution engine adds ambience and patterns to the sound.

The ARP builds rhythmic arpeggios, and the 109 custom presets give you starting points in five groups: All-Stars, Core Keys, Extended, Rhythmic and Rhythmic Melodic. The Intuitive Sample Browser helps you move between sources and presets quickly. Komplete Kontrol integration makes the instrument NKS-ready.
