01Overview

Loot Audio's Antique Metal Percussion turns everyday antique objects into instruments. The library was sampled from items including a turn-of-the-century copper fire extinguisher, a WWII .50 caliber ammo box, a seaside lantern, an old iron headboard and a library book cart. Each object is played lightly and recorded, giving the patches a distinct metallic timbre. The library requires the full version of Kontakt, as the free Kontakt Player will not load it.

Sound Design and Control Options

The library contains 42 Kontakt patches built from over 330 samples, with four round robins per hit to reduce repetition. Each instrument is velocity sensitive.

The GUI gives direct access to the main parameters: pitch, attack and release for each patch, and high, mid and low EQ. A toggleable convolution reverb offers 13 custom impulse responses that can be selected from the interface, and a built-in arpeggiator adds rhythmic options. A master patch is included for each instrument.

Reversals, Pads and Cinematic FX

Beyond the percussion, the library includes more than 70 reversal sounds derived from the recording sessions, along with 13 long reversal tension builders. There are also 12 atonal looping pads and a set of FX patches based on each instrument's samples.

The developer describes the grisly scrapes and FX patch as a dark, dramatic element, and the reversals and impacts are aimed at horror, avant-garde and cinematic material.
