Masala is a second Sound Bank Series release from sound designer Christian Laffitte, built for the String Studio VS-3 string modeling synthesizer. The collection covers 101 presets in five groups: plucked strings, synths, percussion, arpeggiators and effects. Applied Acoustics Systems describes the sounds as light and responsive, with bounces, buzzes and sizzles. The bank includes the free AAS Player plug-in, so the presets can also be played outside the synth itself.

Applied Acoustics Systems describes the Masala presets as a mix of timbres that do not sit in one familiar style. The bank is weighted toward plucked strings, with 53 presets in that group, so the collection is strongest for plucked and string-based textures.

The remaining presets add 11 synth sounds, 15 percussion sounds, 10 arpeggiators and 12 effects. The arpeggiators and percussion give you rhythmic starting points, while the effects offer processed sounds you can build from.

Using Masala With String Studio VS-3 and AAS Player

Masala is made for the String Studio VS-3. You can edit the sounds in String Studio VS-3 itself. If you install the sound bank and have the String Studio VS-3 on your computer, the Reverence presets are added to it automatically.

If you do not own the synth, you can still play the presets through the free AAS Player plug-in, which is included with the purchase. The plug-in is listed in VST, AU, AAX and RTAS formats.
