Sound and Character of the Dimension D Emulation
Universal Audio describes Studio D Chorus as an emulation of the Roland Dimension D, the chorus unit introduced in 1979. The developer names guitarists and producers who have used the original hardware for analog-style widening, including Stevie Ray Vaughan, Brian Eno and M83.
The plugin's character comes from its push buttons. Each button engages a different part of the effect, so combinations produce a range of subtle thickening textures. Engaging all four buttons together produces a fuller modulation texture that the developer says works on any instrument.
According to Universal Audio, the effect can add openness to background vocals and strings and create floating textures on guitars and synth pads.
