Sound and character of the spectral model
Sampleson describes Stage54 as built from more than 64 groups of timbre components, including releases, bells, key noises, main timbre and resonance. Each component is recreated through spectral modeling, which the developer says yields a warm, organic tone.
The engine creates small variations for the same note and velocity rather than switching between a fixed set of velocity layers. Sampleson calls this infinite round-robin behavior and says it makes the instrument respond more like the original piano.
The focus on the middle register makes the instrument suited to chords and melodic passages, which is the role the original 54-key variant was built for.
