01Overview

Fire is a virtual instrument built around a piano bass, a sound that has been a staple in rock and funk live shows. Sampleson used spectral modelling rather than samples to recreate the instrument, which means there is no layer switching and no library to install. The developer says the instrument captures both the main timbre and the individual mechanical noises and releases of the original. Fire runs as a plugin inside a compatible host, with standalone versions also included.

Sound and Character of the Piano Bass

Fire is designed to be played as a normal bass line, but its rich harmonic spectrum also lets it work for melodies in the low register. Sampleson states that the releases and mechanical noises are a big part of the piano bass sound, and these are modelled alongside the main timbre.

A low-end harmonic knob lets you adjust the harmonic content of the low end. Included Drive and Reverb effects let you shape the tone without loading additional processing plugins.

Workflow and Controls

The interface is HD scalable. Velocity controls shape the response of the notes, and because the instrument is not sample-based, the velocity curve is smooth rather than switching between layers.

Fire loads into major DAWs including Cubase, Logic Pro, GarageBand, Cakewalk, Reaper, Bitwig, Nuendo and FL Studio. It does not require Kontakt, UVI or any other third-party player, and it needs no online activation.
