How the gate works and what it controls
The main controls will be familiar if you have used a compressor. The threshold sets the level at which the gate triggers. When the source falls below the threshold, the gate clamps down on the audio, and the depth of that reduction is determined by the range setting.
Gain, attack and release shape how the gate opens and closes. As with compression, the right attack and release times depend on the source material, so a short attack suits percussive sounds while longer settings suit sustained audio. A VU meter helps you see the level as you adjust the threshold.
Because the plugin is built around these familiar parameters, it is straightforward to dial in once you understand how a gate responds to level.
