01Overview

Black Rooster Audio built the RO-140 around plate simulation, a reverb technique that engineers used on many hit recordings from the 1950s and 1960s. The developer says it was physically modeled from its hardware counterparts while still being an original plugin. Rather than only reproducing a fixed sound, it lets you shape the tail through plate material, plate size, damping and pre-delay, so you can recreate a vintage plate or design a reverb of your own.

Plate Materials, Damping and Pre-Delay Controls

The RO-140 includes six physically modeled plate materials: gold, silver, steel, aluminum, bronze and titanium. Each has an adjustable size through its plate size control, so the character of the reverb can change from material to material and size to size.

A classic damper control sets the decay time, with 10 damper positions selectable with the plus and minus buttons. The pre-delay control sets the delay between the dry and wet signals. It sits after the plate emulation, so you can modulate the reverb tail with DAW automation.

Gain Staging and Real-Time Use

Input and output gain controls let you set the level going into the processing and the level coming out of it. The plugin is zero latency and does not need sample delay compensation, which makes it suitable for real-time monitoring and live use.

The interface supports high pixel density displays on Windows and macOS. On Windows, check your DAW manual to confirm it is HighDPI compatible.
