01Overview

Onde takes its inspiration from the Ondes Martenot, the early electronic instrument known for its ribbon-controlled glissandi. Instead of synthesizing tones from scratch, Onde plays back samples of performances captured through live resonating gongs and custom amps. The developer credits Bigano (Vincent Gagnon and Fabien Noel) with the sound design, with MNTRA collaborating on the project and Daniel Áñez performing the recordings. The result is a library of chords, drones, glissandi, gongs, noise textures and pitched percussion, shaped for producers who want acoustic resonance in their music.

Sound Families and Character

Onde is organized into six sound families: Chords, Drones, Glissando, Gongs, Noise and Experimental. The Chords and Drones sides lean toward warm, evolving harmonic layers and slowly breathing ambient beds. Glissando and Gongs focus on fluid pitch movement and metallic tones that bloom and fade after being struck.

The Hybrid and Pad categories add cymbal-resonator sounds, long soft sustains, and a range of vibrato-based glissandi. Noise and pitched percussion sounds cover grainy textures and short, snappy attacks, including a pizzicato-style note with layered noise.

Onde's sample maps use up to four mic positions across 18 multimic maps, three of which are multidynamic, giving the playback a recorded, physical quality.

Workflow, Playback and Round Robins

Onde is recorded at 32-bit, 384kHz ultrasonic resolution, while playback runs at 24-bit, 96kHz to keep CPU use efficient. The instrument includes three preset sets, named Elements 56, Atelier 24 and Bigano 57, and its sample library totals 8.26 GB.

Round-robin behavior is driven by Sample Start Modulation (SSM), which the developer describes as producing infinite round robins. Each note can therefore vary from one playback to the next, which helps repeated phrases avoid sounding mechanical.

Because Onde uses a standard encrypted install rather than iLok, licensing is tied to your system.
