01Overview

Melody Sauce 3 Upgrade is aimed at people who already own Melody Sauce 1 or 2 and want to move to the third version. The plugin generates melodies after you choose a genre and style, then clicking a pad produces a melody with matching chords and bass. Version 3 adds chord generation, so the plugin can also create chord progressions, and it includes a new interface with an expanded piano roll. The result is a MIDI idea that you can drag into your DAW and use with your other software instruments.

Chord generation and progressions

Melody Sauce 3 can generate chord progressions as well as melodies. EVAbeat describes over 1,000 chord progressions across 9 genres. Chord and bass layers have their own internal sounds and rhythms, and you can select from over 140 chord and bass rhythms.

Chord progressions are fully editable, and the chord types include Maj9, sus2 and Dim7. The voicing control changes the feel of chords, with over 100 voicings from simple two-note chords to wide spreads. You can also import your own MIDI chord files, and the plugin detects the chords and key so you can generate melodies to match.

Editing controls and melody settings

Melodies are now eight bars long, and the generation algorithms aim for more natural, flowing lines. A Movement control sets whether melodies flow smoothly or leap between phrases, and a Chord Fit control sets how closely melodies follow the underlying chords.

Phrase lock lets you keep part of a melody and generate a new melody around it. You can tweak melodies in the piano roll or use the editing controls to adjust individual sections separately.
