01Overview

Maraca Nhobe is based on the maraca ngobe, a shaking idiophone from Costa Rica's largest and oldest family of instruments. The developer describes it as a handled rattle with larger percussion seeds, used in ceremonial cleansing rituals and in soundscapes meant to induce trance. This Kontakt instrument is built around that instrument, offering 22 audio files and 180 Kontakt sample files, with five microphone options for shaping the recording character.

03In depth

Sound and Character of the Maraca Samples

Sounds of the Earth says this particular maraca produces a bright, shrill, high-pitched sound, attributed to the handmade holes in its construction. That tonal quality sets it apart from a generic shaker, making it a more distinctive texture for percussion parts.

The instrument includes five Kontakt microphone options, so you can choose how the recording is captured and adjust the sound to suit the mix.

Using Maraca Nhobe in Percussion and Soundscape Work

The instrument is suited to percussion that needs a high, cutting rattle with an organic, handmade character. Its ceremonial origin also makes it relevant for soundscape and atmospheric projects that call for world percussion textures.

With 180 sample files and 22 audio files included, you have enough material to build varied rhythms and avoid obvious repetition. The library is compact at 75MB.
