KaoX offers two layers that can be played single, double or split. Each layer can run its own arpeggiator, with playing-mode or unison options, and there is easy access to vibrato and tremolo.

Four effects sit in the signal chain with independent routing, which lets you shape each layer separately. The global view highlights active modules so you can see the signal path at a glance, and contextual help windows explain the parameters as you work.

The four-track sequencer can be assigned to the lower and/or upper layer, with independent sustain or gating per track. Each track can also act as a modulation source.

Each FM operator has its own LFO, envelope, wheel and aftertouch access, two user-defined external modulators and a keyboard follower 2D pad. Operators can use ratio or absolute frequency, and each includes a low-pass filter.

The bank structure is useful for chorus-like FM sounds or punchy stereo presets. A dedicated FM algorithm matrix is always available when you need to rework the routing.

The single-window preset manager lets you find patches, manage presets and soundbanks, and create your own tags. The library includes more than 500 presets, and the developer credits sound designers including Nori Ubukata, Soundsdivine, Tom Wolfe, Zensound, Mikael Adle, Xenos, Status and Yuli-Yolo.
