01Overview

GRRR is built around a growl engine that listens to the beat of your track and responds in sync. Thenatan Audio positions it for bass-music producers working in styles such as dubstep, drill, trap, EDM and riddim. The plugin combines four separate racks, each with its own character, along with shared shaping controls for weight and drive. Each rack gives you a single main knob, which keeps the interface simple to work with on a bass, vocal or drum track.

Four Growl Racks and Master Controls

GRRR is organized into four racks. TRASH combines wavefolding, decimation, ring modulation and throat rattle on a single knob. TALK is a beat-driven vowel effect that accelerates up to 4x on hits. WUB is a resonant wobble filter with wider, deeper sweeps. SCREECH is a metallic riddim sound that moves from low growl to high scream.

The master section adds SUB, which layers an octave-down weight under the signal, and DENSE, which scales drive, sweep depth, resonance and gating across all four racks. Each rack has its own Mix and Bypass controls for blending and A/B comparison.

Who GRRR Is For and How It Is Used

Thenatan Audio designs GRRR for modern bass-music production. Typical uses include turning a flat 808 into an aggressive bass, adding grit and movement to a vocal, or giving drums a destructive edge. The plugin also includes more than 20 starting presets covering bass growls, vocal monsters, drum destruction and riddim lasers, which can be loaded and adjusted as a starting point.

GRRR runs on Windows and macOS in 64-bit form. The developer notes native Apple Silicon support on Mac.

What is GRRR used for?

GRRR is a growl and distortion-style effect for bass, vocals and drums. Its growl engine reacts to the beat of your track, so the effect moves in sync with the hits.

What formats and operating systems does GRRR support?

GRRR is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats. It runs on Windows and macOS in 64-bit form.

What do I need to run GRRR?

Windows 7, 8, 10 or later, or OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks or later, with 4 GB RAM and 2 GB of free space on the system drive. The developer lists support for most major DAWs, including FL Studio, Logic and Ableton Live. Pro Tools is not supported because there is no AAX version for it in that list.
