01Overview

Groei is a Kontakt instrument from Dream Date Designs that works as a drum machine built around four independent voices. Each voice has its own sequencer, with control over step count and subdivision, so patterns can run at different lengths against each other. Sound Design and Per-Voice Control

Each of the four voices offers individual control over pitch, volume, attack, release, pan, random pan, filter, drive and resonance. This makes it possible to shape the character of every sound separately rather than relying on one shared processing chain.

The built-in library covers Kick, Snare, Percussion, Hi hats, Organics and Plastics. Sounds are round robin, so repeated hits vary slightly, which helps repeated patterns avoid sounding mechanical. Dream Date Designs also notes that all sounds are available in normal and slow versions, both recorded to 1/4 tape on a vintage Nagra IVS.

Sequencing and Effects Workflow

The per-voice sequencer lets you set subdivision and number of steps for each voice, with three velocity levels per step. Patterns can be built by clicking steps manually.

The effects section is a pedal-board-style layout in which effects can be dragged to reorder them in real time. Because the effects are part of the instrument, you can rework a processing chain without leaving the interface.
