01Overview

Audiority built the Green Reaper GR9 around a model of the TS-808 pedal, the first unit in the Tube Screamer series. The original was released in 1979 and is hand-wired by MAXON engineers, a company that worked as Ibanez's production partner until 2002. The plugin keeps the three-control layout of the pedal and adds extras such as Pre and Post gain, a Mix control and a noise gate. It is a software-only product for online download.

Sound Character and Circuit Types

The core of the GR9 is an analog-modeled overdrive. Audiority says the original pedal became popular for one of the smoothest and most responsive overdrive tones, achieved with just three controls. The plugin keeps that foundation and adds twelve different circuit types, including several modified versions of the original circuit. This gives you a range of drive characters from one plugin, without changing the basic overdrive approach.

Because the pedal has been cloned and modified many times, the model is aimed at users who know the Tube Screamer sound and want a familiar starting point.

Controls, Gain Staging and Workflow

The main controls are Drive, Tone and Level, which follow the pedal's layout. The plugin adds Pre and Post effect gain, so you can shape how hard the signal hits the overdrive stage and how loud it comes out. A Mix control lets you blend the processed signal with the dry signal. A noise gate is included to help manage unwanted noise. The resizable interface makes the controls easier to read at different window sizes.

A "To Amp" output mode is also available for routing the plugin into an amp-style chain.
