01Overview

Doomagorgon is an effects plugin from Audiority, filed under distortion. It pairs two channels modeled on hardware pedals: an octave fuzz channel and a chainsaw channel. Turning one control moves the sound from deep, low-end octave fuzz for doom and sludge to tighter, high-gain tones for death metal. The plugin adds a transposer, optional modifiers for each channel, noise gate, level meters and a mix control, so it can serve as a full guitar or bass distortion chain in a single unit.

Octave fuzz and chainsaw channels in one plugin

Doomagorgon is built around two channels. The Octave Fuzz channel is modeled on one half of a Boss FZ-2 (the Univox SuperFuzz channel). The Chainsaw channel is modeled on one half of an HM-2. The developer describes the combination as a two-headed distortion unit meant to cover both heavy fuzz and high-gain riffing.

Each channel has its own tone shaping, so you can set the fuzz and chainsaw sounds independently. The Pre and Post gain controls let you manage the level going into and coming out of the effect, and the Mix control blends the processed signal with the dry signal.

The Transposer adds an octave-based pitch layer that works alongside the fuzz channel.

Modifiers, gating and workflow

Doomagorgon includes two switchable modifiers. FILTH MOD is available on the Fuzz channel and doubles down on distortion and scoop. RAT MOD is available on the Chainsaw channel and switches it from a smooth overdrive to hard clipping, similar to a RAT-style distortion.

A noise gate helps control unwanted hiss and sustain between notes when driving high gain. Level meters show signal activity at a glance, and the interface can be resized to suit your screen.
