01Overview

Aleatoric Keys draws on synthesizer and real-life recordings and blends them into new sounds. Its library holds more than 14 GB of samples across 160 instruments, covering bass, keys and strings, synths, pads, winds and FX. Each of its four sample sources can be shaped with its own EQ, envelope and filter, and two manipulation pads let you move the balance and filter of the layers over time. The instrument is aimed at cinematic scoring but is also described for use as an expressive layer in many genres.

Sound Design Engine and Manipulation Pads

Each of the four sample sources has independent 3-band EQ, envelope and filter parameters, plus pitch shifting of up to plus or minus 36 semitones and source-specific panning.

The Source Movement pad controls the gain distribution between the four sources, so the balance of a layered pad or lead can shift over the course of a phrase. The Filter Movement pad controls filter cutoff and resonance, either across all sources or per source. Both pads offer Horizontal, Vertical and Circular modulation units.

Modulation, Effects and Randomisation

The Edit Modulation menu contains four LFO modules and four envelope modules that can be assigned to a range of source parameters. This gives you control over how the sound moves, or lets you leave movement to the randomiser.

The Edit Effects menu includes nine modules: Chorus, Distortion, Lo-Fi (Bitcrusher), Replika Delay, Spatial (Stereo Field Enhancer), Filter, Phasis (Phaser), Convolution (Reverb) and Flair (a tuned, harmonics-enhancing flanger). The Edit Randomise page has toggles for randomising several sets of parameters, and sample selection can also be randomised.

The 112 snapshots, grouped into Bass, Keys & Strings, Pads, Synths and FX, give you a starting point to audition before editing.
