01Overview

The Year Three Collection bundles three module sets from Cherry Audio and MRB: the VM900 Collection, the VM2500 Collection and the Synthesizer Expander Module Bundle. Together they cover the sound and panel layouts of two vintage modular systems. The developer says the VM900 modules keep the original designs without modern updates, while the VM2500 modules recreate the ARP 2500 with its matrix connections replaced by standard CV jacks. Because the pack is an add-on, it works only within Voltage Modular.

Vintage Moog 900 and ARP 2500 Modules

The VM900 Collection contains 27 modules that the developer describes as covering the commonly produced 900-series modules, including early 901-style and later 921-style oscillators in single and grouped versions. It includes lowpass and highpass 904 ladder filters, a 904C coupler for combined filter curves, and the CP3 mixer in early and later circuit styles.

The VM2500 Collection contains 21 modules that recreate the ARP 2500 modular synthesizer. Cherry Audio says all 18 original modules are reproduced, along with a full-function oscilloscope, a spring reverb and a mixer module that was never produced. Bipolar CV attenuators were added to modulation inputs for compatibility with other Voltage Modular modules.

A 960-series style sequencer and 962 switch are part of the VM900 set. Cherry Audio adds a 1/12 V quantized output on each sequence row, which simplifies building chromatic melodies.

The VM1630 Frequency Shifter is one of the standout modules in the VM900 set. The developer says its DSP reproduces the module's range, from subtle vibrato to ring-modulation-style metallic tones.

What do I need to use the Year Three Collection?

Voltage Modular is required to use this product. The collection adds its modules to that platform and does not run on its own.
