03In depth

Sound Character and Range of Patches

Resonance Sound describes the Nord Lead 4 as having a simple layout, with digital waveforms and new filters extending its sound palette. The PURE bank includes 99 individual patches covering huge pads, silky strings, brooding atmospheres, deep basses, and rich plucks and leads.

The developer says the influence of electronic dance music runs through the bank, so many sounds suit that context. The patches are not limited to one genre, though, and the developer says they are designed to inspire.

Performance Patches and MIDI Examples

The bank includes 25 performance patches. Some combine different sounds chosen to complement each other. Others are programmed to behave like single sounds but use more oscillators, filters and routing, which the developer says gives a richer tone than individual sound slots can reach.

The bank also includes 35 MIDI files that provide musical examples and context for the patches. Modwheel assignments are included as well.
