01Overview

Tronto Trilogy is built around three synth instruments that share a common design. TRONTO is a vintage analog-style polysynth with oscillators recorded through valve pre-amps to tape. VCO is the tapeless version of TRONTO, and DCO is based on the waveforms of a 1980s Japanese digitally controlled oscillator synth, recorded without tape. Each instrument includes 30 filters, six LFOs and two global LFOs, so you can shape sounds in several directions from one interface.

Sound Character and Oscillators

TRONTO uses seven waveforms plus pink and white noise drawn from 1972 synthesizer oscillators. The waveforms were recorded through valve pre-amps to vintage tape, which gives them a warm, saturated character.

DCO takes a different approach. Its seven phase-aligned waveforms were recorded without tape, which keeps tuning and waveform shape precise. Tronsonic describes the two approaches as contrasting: the tape-colored TRONTO and the more scientific, precise DCO.

The instrument set also includes a saturation button that applies tape or tube character through a custom impulse response, along with a convolution reverb with 36 spring reverb variations.

Modulation and Workflow

Each instrument provides six LFOs, two per section covering oscillator, filter and amplifier. Two global LFOs and an AHD envelope can modulate each of the six LFOs, which allows layered movement in a single patch.

Knobs and sliders can be assigned to external controllers, so hardware controllers can handle parameter control. The DCO instrument can link with TRONTO in multi-mode for dual oscillators and shared control.

The instruments come with 200 presets for TRONTO and over 100 for DCO, many of which have a modular-style sound.

Who It Is For

Tronto Trilogy suits producers who want vintage analog textures inside Kontakt. The bundle covers both warm, tape-colored sounds and cleaner, more precise synthesis, so it can serve as a main synth or as a layer for sound design.

The developer describes the interface as intuitive to learn and operate, and it is offered in three interface colors.

Questions, answered

What do I need to use Tronto Trilogy?

Tronto Trilogy requires the full version of Kontakt. The free Kontakt Player is not supported.

Which formats and operating systems does Tronto Trilogy support?

It is available in VST2, AU, RTAS and Kontakt formats, and runs on Windows and macOS in 64-bit. Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.6 or 10.7 are listed as minimum systems, with 2 GB of RAM.

What is the difference between TRONTO and DCO?

TRONTO uses waveforms recorded through valve pre-amps to vintage tape. DCO is the tapeless version, with phase-aligned waveforms recorded without tape for greater tuning and waveform precision.

How many presets are included?

TRONTO includes 200 presets, and DCO includes over 100, many with a modular-style sound.
