01Overview

Kork M500 Micro Preset is built around a sampled replica of the Korg M500, the compact micro preset synthesizer from the late 1970s. Tronsonic adds a custom tape FX section that emulates tape compression and damage, letting you shape how the synth's dynamics behave. The instrument ships as two sets of NKIS files for Native Instruments' Kontakt, so it is aimed at producers who already work in Kontakt and want a vintage micro synth voice.

Sound Character and Sampling Approach

Tronsonic describes the instrument as a faithful replica of the classic micro preset synth, with a few extras added. The waveforms were captured without tape to keep them pure, and the developer notes that near 100-year-old interstage transformers were used during sampling.

Valves were also used in the sampling chain to add high-end sizzle and a sense of dimension. The developer's audio demo is the best way to judge how the instrument sounds before you buy.

Tape FX Section and Workflow

The custom tape FX section is the main addition to the original synth character. It is designed to emulate the effect of tape compression, and a separate damage control introduces tape-style degradation.

Because the instrument runs inside Kontakt, you can treat it like any other Kontakt instrument in your session, route it through your DAW and automate its parameters alongside your other tracks.
