Tenebrae is MNTRA Instruments' first entry in its Artist Series, made in collaboration with Joseph Holiday, who performs as SNAKES OF RUSSIA. The instrument focuses on playable soundscapes that combine modular synth patches, heavy analog subs and gritty drum samples. Its sound comes from 70 instrument sound sources processed through analog outboard gear and tape, and the instrument runs inside MNDALA 2.

Tenebrae's core is a set of 70 instrument sound sources crafted from analog origins. The developer says each one was processed using rare and unobtainable hardware, and that analog outboard processing and tape add texture to modular and analog synths, bowed instruments and percussion alike.

The instrument is built around dark, apocalyptic tones. Heavy analog subs and gritty drum samples sit alongside modular synth patches, so the library suits producers who want dirt and low-end weight in their palette.

Tenebrae ships with more than 170 presets. These include 79 presets crafted by SNAKES OF RUSSIA, the MNTRA collection of 70 Elements presets, and 27 Atelier presets to start from.

The instrument has up to 13 round robins and was recorded at 24-bit, up to 96 kHz. Tenebrae also includes two effect processors that model the artist's signal chains: BESTIAE, for filters, drive and compression in parallel or series, and DIRTY BUCKETS, a series of gritty bucket brigade delay-based reverbs. Downloads, updates and installation are handled within MNDALA 2 with a registered MNTRA account.
