01Overview

SRX ELECTRIC PIANO comes from Roland's SRX wave expansion board line, which was widely used on hardware such as the JV-1080 and XP-80. The plugin brings the sampled electric piano and clavinet material of that series into a modern DAW. Multiple keyboards were sampled, with several velocity layers and different pickup settings on the clavinet, and the instrument ships with 1251 waveforms and 50 ready-to-play patches. Its Digital Circuit Behavior technology models the digital components of the original hardware alongside the sample data.

Electric Piano and Clavinet Sound Character

Roland sampled several keyboards in detail, capturing each note at multiple velocities. The clavinet samples include different pickup settings, which gives you more tonal options within the same instrument.

Digital Circuit Behavior is the part of the design that goes beyond playback. Roland says the modeling reproduces the behavior of the hardware's digital circuitry, not only its recorded sample ROM. The result is meant to respond with the same expression and detail as the original boards.

Built-in reverb, chorus and 78 multi-effects types let you shape the sound further without adding separate processing.

Editing, Patches and Hardware Control

Each SRX ELECTRIC PIANO patch can be adjusted with synth editing parameters for sound shaping. The interface is designed to keep these controls direct and easy to reach.

You can save customized sounds in unlimited user banks, so your own variations stay available across projects. The 50 included patches give you a starting point before you edit.

Roland notes that knobs and sliders on compatible contemporary hardware, such as the SYSTEM-8, can map to the plugin for hands-on control.
