Monochord Sound and Harmonics
The sandawa is described as a string instrument inspired by Japanese monochords from the mid-20th century. Its character comes largely from the harmonics it produces. The main voice plays in the lower register, while a shorter section closer to the bridge gives a higher-pitched layer.
Sounds of the Earth says the tuning can vary with the intended use, often aligned with Solfeggio frequencies. In the usual setup, all strings are tuned to the same note, so the instrument works as a drone-based sound source.
