Sound and Character of the 80s Reverb Model
Relab says the Q82 was modeled from three vintage units from the US, Japan and Germany. The German unit was chosen as the reference because of its rich sound and low noise.
The developer describes a process of reverse engineering and restoration with veteran engineers, followed by machine learning based on extensive testing. According to Relab, the model accounts for heat-related behavior changes and clock fluctuations, which affect reverb coefficients. The aim is an effect that changes slightly over time, as vintage gear does, instead of sounding fixed.
