01Overview

LANDR Retro is built around three sound layers: a piano foundation, a drifting synth pad and a gritty mini-wave sub-layer. LANDR describes the goal as a warm, dusty, nostalgic tone that can be dialed in quickly. Smart effects named Space, Dimension and Amp add reverb, stereo width and drive, and four vintage saturation modes (Vinyl, Digit, Bitcrush and Tape) add recorded-sounding character to each patch.

Three layers for lo-fi keys and pads

The Keys, Synth and Mini-wave engines can each be toggled on or off and gain-staged, so you can move between organic and electronic textures in the same patch. The sampled electric and acoustic keys provide the core sound, while the synth layer adds slowly moving pads.

Each of the three engines has its own ADSR envelope and tone knobs, which gives direct control over how each layer attacks, decays, sustains and releases. This makes it practical to build tight vintage keys as easily as drifting lo-fi pads.

Saturation and effects for lo-fi character

The Vinyl, Digit, Bitcrush and Tape saturation modes add noise and texture meant to imitate a dusty record, an early sampler and a worn cassette. Because the final character is adjustable, you can keep the grit subtle or push it further.

Space, Dimension and Amp handle reverb, stereo width and drive. Space analyzes the incoming audio to choose its reverb settings, which is useful when you want the effect to suit the source rather than set everything by hand.
