01Overview

Roland released the original JUNO-60 in 1982 as an early member of its JUNO series, and it is still prized for its fat, punchy analog sound. This plugin brings that character into a DAW. Roland says it uses its ACB (Analog Circuit Behavior) technology to model the original circuits, and it includes the chorus, filter and oscillator behavior associated with the hardware. It is distributed through Roland Cloud.

Sound and Character of the JUNO-60 Synth Plugin

The JUNO-60 is known for a single DCO, a sub-oscillator, a characterful VCF and its wide chorus. Roland says the plugin models the original filter closely and adds the option to switch to the JUNO-106's HPF circuit, which adds a bass bump.

The chorus is a central part of the sound. The plugin includes the original's two selectable chorus modes plus a third mode reached by pressing both buttons together. Roland also describes the modeled noise that many JUNO users consider part of the sound.

Roland also says Circuit Mod and Condition controls let you change how the circuits behave, from a factory-fresh setting to a more worn-out character.

Presets, Effects and Workflow

The plugin includes a set of mix-ready presets, covering basses, leads, pads and plucks. These are useful as starting points when building a track.

In addition to chorus, the plugin includes reverb, delay, flanger and overdrive effects. Roland also states that the JUNO-60 supports its PLUG-OUT format, which maps parameters to the Roland SYSTEM-8 hardware synth for stage use without a computer.
