01Overview

IRDX Core does not load impulse responses. It sits after an existing guitar amp simulation or IR loader and adds the speaker movement, compression and distortion that a static impulse response cannot capture. Bogren Digital says the plugin is built on IRDX (Impulse Response Dynamix) technology, developed by producer Jens Bogren. It comes with two modes, Normal and Intense, and an automatic input calibration option.

Why Dynamic Speaker Behavior Matters

An impulse response captures the tone and resonance of a cabinet at one moment, much like a photograph. Real speakers, however, respond to the signal they receive. They move air, compress and break up depending on how hard the amp pushes them.

IRDX Core models these non-linear behaviors and applies them on top of your existing amp sim or IR loader. Bogren Digital says the effect is most noticeable when comparing a bypassed chain with an active one, where individual guitar strokes sound more distinct and the tone changes over time.

Modes, Calibration and Setup

IRDX Core offers two modes. Normal provides subtle speaker movement, compression and distortion. Intense makes the same effects more pronounced, so you can choose the one that suits your music.

In most cases no adjustments are needed. If you want the plugin to respond more naturally, the automatic input calibration listens to your guitar signal and sets a healthy input level. Place IRDX Core on an insert slot directly after an IR loader or an amp sim that includes a speaker cabinet model. Bogren Digital's own amp sim plugins already include IRDX technology, so the developer advises against adding IRDX Core after them.
