01Overview

AmpKnob BDH 5169 is designed for guitarists and producers who want a high-gain tone without spending time on settings. Bogren Digital based the plugin on a classic high-gain amp head that became popular with heavy metal and metalcore bands from the mid-1990s. Each amp in the BDH collection includes a pedal switch for a tighter low end and a harder-driven input, and the standalone version adds recording, a metronome and a tuner for working on ideas before opening a DAW.

Sound and Character of the BDH 5169 Amp Model

The BDH 5169 is based on a block letter amp head from 1992. Bogren Digital describes its tone as aggressive and punchy, the reason it became a favorite among heavy metal and metalcore players in the mid-1990s.

A pedal switch on the front panel is a push-button boost. It tightens the low end and drives the input harder, which suits heavy riffing. The speaker cabinet, microphone and recording chain were chosen and dialed in by producer Jens Bogren. You can disable the cabinet or load your own impulse response from within the plugin.

Standalone Tools for Riffing and Practice

The standalone version of AmpKnob includes built-in recording, so you can capture a riff without opening a DAW. It also has a metronome where you can change the meter, set accents or add automatic speed increments, and a built-in tuner.

The design goal is a focus on tone and writing rather than on adjusting settings. AmpKnob is built around a single main control to keep attention on playing.
