01Overview

Impresser is a compressor plugin from Antelope Audio, built around a vintage analog design. Antelope Audio developed it for Native and Synergy Core real-time workflows. It can add gentle, warm compression or push a source hard, and it can also work as a harmonic enhancer with compression switched off. A UK Mode changes the attack and release behavior for a more aggressive, limiter-style character. Impresser runs in mono or stereo.

Best for

  • Drum bus compression
  • Grunge guitar and bass
  • Parallel saturation
  • Pumping dance tracks
  • Vocal warmth and color
  • Sidechain-filtered mixing

Ratios and Sound Character

Impresser's ratio settings cover a wide range of behavior. At 1:1 it applies no gain reduction and works as a harmonic enhancer, adding low-order warmth and analog-style body to the signal. The 10:1 Opto ratio gives smooth, musical compression. The Nuke ratio is the most extreme setting and is suited to heavy, pumping compression.

The harmonic distortion section can add subtle tube-like distortion and tape-like saturation. Antelope Audio says the unit this plugin is based on could add second and third order harmonics, alone or combined. Impresser can apply this coloration with or without compressing the signal.

UK Mode is the switch for the aggressive side of the sound. It pushes attack and release into fast, non-linear behavior that imitates classic limiter circuitry driven hard.

Workflow and Sidechain Control

Impresser includes High-pass and Band-pass sidechain filters with adjustable frequency settings. These let you control which part of the frequency range drives the compressor, so you can keep low end or specific bands from triggering gain reduction.

The plugin is a good fit for producers who want a single compressor that moves between transparent-style leveling, optical-style smoothness and fast, FET-like aggression. Switching between these modes is handled by its ratio and UK Mode controls.
